Utah republican Jason Chaffetz is introducing a new piece of legislation to ban the full body image scanning system currently in place at the Salt Lake International Airport.
Congressman Chaffetz says it's borderline pornography,
However, people with pacemakers and other types of hip and knee replacement hardware say the system actually saves them the humiliation of a pat down search.
It's part of a six month pilot program.
Seven airports across the country are using the 170 thousand dollar machine.
We spoke with a man today who has had several knee surgeries.
Before the body scan system, he just planned for an extra 20 to 25 minutes at the airport to get patted down after the metal detector inevitably went off.
Now it's a matter of five minutes at the most to step into the machine and get scanned.
He wants congressman Chaffetz to carefully consider his groups point of view before pursuing a ban on the system.
The manager of the St. George airport says the system is mainly built for higher volume airports so it probably wouldn't even be viable at the St. George regional airport.
