One thousand flags are flying high in mesquite to honor veterans and troops fighting for our country.
"Its just our way of saying thank you for all that they have done," said Dr. Peggy Purner, President of the Exchange Club of Mesquite.
On Sunday members of the exchange club along with volunteers put up the flags in hopes of saying thank you.
"Because look at what they have done for our country, look at the lives that were sacrificed for country, said Dennis Hangey, Member of the Exchange Club of Mesquite. What all of the veterans have done for us its amazing, no one can comprehend what they have done for us, he said.
By setting up these flags is a chance honor the veteran and the troops fighting over seas.
" Its the stars and strip, its old glory, its a way that we can show them how much we appreciate what they have done for us, Hangey said. "We see them walking through these flags at 2, 3 in the morning with tears in their eyes and the chills that they get," he said.
Members of the club say that just by walking through flags its a special moment that you will treasure forever.
"I know that if anyone walking through here when all of there all up its a very touching feeling and a meaning full feeling, said Diane Corrigan, member of the Exchange club of Mesquite.
Purner said it helps alot of the veterans to have some closure, when they walk through the field of flags.
As the flags fly high, its change for many to remember those that are fallen and will never been forgotten.
"It means so much," Hangey said. "I find myself walking through the flags, the feeling of all the life's that are sacrifices for our freedom and it just means the world to me," he said.
The flags will be flying at the Mesqutie Rec Center till Sunday.
