Southern Utah lawmakers have spoken out against a citizen’s ethics initiative, saying it goes too far.
At a forum last week, Senators Steve Urquhart and Dennis Stowell along with Representatives Don Ipson and Mike Noel questioned the motives of petition backers.
The four Republicans contend it's a clear effort to get certain people out of office. Among other things, the initiative would limit campaign contributions and prohibit legislators from accepting gifts from lobbyists. To get the initiative on the 2010 ballot, 95-thosuand signatures must be gathered by April.
