Chad Pollock Awarded Peace Officers Medal of Valor

By Sgt. Del Schlosser, Iron County Sheriff

(Cedar City, UT) - Iron County Sheriff’s Corrections Corporal Chad Pollock was awarded the Medal of Valor by the Utah Peace Officers Association during its mid-winter convention last Thursday in St. George, Utah.

Pollock displayed courageous actions on June 29, 2009, when an inmate attempted to escape from the Iron County Jail through the use of force against another deputy and the threat of a homemade explosive device. Pollock willingly put himself into a volatile situation to remove Deputy Carla Britt from danger. He did so with total disregard for his own personal safety, said Iron County Jail Captain Bret Allred.

“Without the actions of Corporal Pollock, it is possible that Deputy Britt could have suffered serious injury or death and the inmate could have been successful in making his escape from the facility,” said Allred.
Pollock, through his quick thinking and courageous actions, saved not only Deputy Britt but many others who may have been harmed by the inmate, Sgt. Del Schlosser added.
