(Salt Lake City, UT) - Approximately 16,000 Utahns who lost their home to foreclosure from 2008 through 2011 may be receiving claim forms in the mail over the next few months. As part of the national mortgage foreclosure settlement Utah borrowers who had their mortgages services by Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo may be entitled to financial compensation.

The settlement, which took effect in April, earmarked approximately $1.5 billion in payments for two million borrowers nationwide. The settlement has identified about 16,000 Utahns who qualify for a portion of that settlement. The amount of money each borrower will receive is dependent upon the number of people who participate in the settlement.

“Utah borrowers who were dealt with unjustly by these five lenders deserve compensation,” says Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. “However, participating in this settlement will not give up any legal rights to pursue more compensation.”

Forms will be mailed out to eligible borrowers in four waves starting on September 24.

Forms mailed to qualified borrowers, must be returned by January 18

The one-page forms can be submitted online at www.nationalmortgagesettlement.com or by filling our the form and mailing it back in the included envelope.
