(St. George, UT) – The Canyon View High Falcons broke through their winless region drought Thursday night in Cedar by upsetting visiting Pine View 2-1 in overtime.

The Lady Falcons have been competitive in games this season, but wins have been elusive. The team laid waste to its eight-match losing streak and Coach Mark Comstock noted that the team has not been hanging their heads at all.

“What has been really nice about this group of girls has been the fact that they have stayed motivated throughout the setbacks,” Comstock said. “We’ve endured.

“I’m hoping there’s a couple more [wins] out there for us before this season wraps up. We’re going to keep working.”

Ashlee Braun netted both Falcon goals raising her season total to nine. Braun tied the match at 1-1 with her first goal in the second half and then tallied the winning goal in overtime on a rare play. Falcons' goalie Jaycee Slack registered the assist on the winning score when she kicked a booming ball over the defense setting up Braun to finish.

“She [Slack] booted that thing [ball] well past midfield,” Comstock said.

Kali Stubbs scored the lone Panther goal, her 11th.

Canyon View ended Pine View’s six-match streak without a loss (5-0-1) which started on August 30. The Falcons did it with quality execution.

“Our transition was very evident,” Comstock said. “We were able to move the ball fairly well.

“It’s a pretty big win for us. We played well against a very good team in Pine View. We’ve had times during this season when we played well like tonight. I think we were just due.”

Of the eight games Canyon View lost in a row, five were by a single goal.
