  • Benavente Scores Twice, DSC Beats the Silverswords

    (St. George, UT) – In front of friends and family that came from Las Vegas, freshman Ryan Benavente scored his first two collegiate goals to lead Dixie State College to a 2-1 win over Chaminade University in Pacific West Conference play. The win at Hansen Stadium, the third straight for Danny Ortiz’s squad, pushed the Red Storm’s record to 4-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the PacWest. Despite being outshot in the first half by one, Benavente struck first for Dixie State in the 40th minute off a breakaway.The lead lasted 47 seconds. Dayton Sato evened the match with a breakaway of his own. In the 65th minute, Francisco Garay sent a pass to into the middle of the box and Benavente lifted a shotthat dropped over the goalkeeper’s head. Dixie State won the shot battle 11 to eight and gave keeper Tyler Walters his fourth win after a three-save night. The Red Storm face BYU-Hawaii Monday at 4:30 on the campus of Dixie High School.
