(Cedar City, UT) - The Orchestra of Southern Utah invites you to join in an evening of guitars, pianos, violins and voices at the Folk Music Recital on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. in St. Jude’s Episcopal Church in Cedar City. This special evening features folk songs, family heritage music, and composers ranging from Ray Charles to Dmitri Kabalevsky.

Cellist Nina Hansen performs “Julie-O” by Mark Summer. Hansen also joins oboist Patrice Ramsay and pianist Julie Kluber to play “Gabriel’s Oboe” from The Mission by Ennio Morricone, arranged by Ryan Stewart and Steven Sharp Nelson.

Musical trio Jim Howells, Des Penny, and Sara Penny perform “Gentle on My Mind” by John Hartford, “Lucky Old Sun” by Ray Charles, “Something I Do” by Robert Earl Keen, “Red River Valley” arranged by Charles A. Hall, and “City of New Orleans” by Steve Goodman. The ensemble includes vocal, guitar and violin.

Violinist Tori Calamity and pianist Kristen Nevins play “Souvenir de Sarasate” by William Potstock.

The vocal duo Becky Sue Moore and Mary Savage sing “O Dearest Lord, Thy Sacred Head” by David N. Johnson. Carol Wagers is their pianist.

Young pianist Jack Vickers performs “Seven Good-Humored Variations on a Ukrainian Folksong” by Dmitri Kabalevsky.

Father-and-daughter duo Arthur and Hannah Kaufman perform the Old English Folk Song “Scarborough Fair.”

A cappella trio Home Girls sing the traditional folk song “Long Time Traveler,” “Fisher’s of Men” by Daniel DiSilva, “Angel Band” by William Bradbury and Jefferson Hascall, “You Don’t Have to Move That Mountain” by Keith Whitley, “One Voice” by Ruth Moody,” “We’ve Decided to Make Jesus Our Choice,” by H. Johnson, and “Home Sweet Home” by John Howard Payne and Sir Henry Bishop. The Home Girls are comprised of Pam Warburton, Hayli Warburton and Kylee Landon.

The Orchestra of Southern Utah Fall Recital Series is held at the St. Jude’s Episcopal Church (70 North 200 West) in Cedar City. Recitals begin at 7:30pm. There is a suggested $5 donation for adults and $3 for students. Children over the age of six are welcome at all the recitals with adult supervision. OSU requests that babies and children less than six years old not attend as recitals are recorded.

The OSU Recital Series also includes Romantic Era on September 25, and Finale Favorites on October 2.
