Captain Scott Taylor said the event started, “As a way to provide a safe trick or treat venue for kids, but the event has become more than just a trick or treat venue. It is a place where friends, community members, and public safety personnel come together to enjoy the excitement of the young children enjoying an age old tradition.”
“There is quite a bit of effort that goes into planning an event like this, and it would not be possible without the help of the community,” said Sgt. Residents and businesses can participate by donating bagged candy to the Mesquite Police Department. Candy can be dropped off at the Mesquite Police Department on Mayan Circle between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“This activity is our way of making an extra effort to keep our youngest community members safe. While most residents look at the bigger dangers of trick or treating they forget it is the everyday traffic rules that tend to be forgotten on Halloween. Kids running across the street without looking combined with an increased number of texting drivers on the roadway can have a tragic result.” said Van Houten.
This year’s event will feature a Sleepy Hollow Forest theme. Visitors are asked to park near the Senior Center and enter the event through the soccer field.
