  • Region 9 Teams Wrap Up Preseason Action

    (St. George, UT) - Come Tuesday, Region 9 girls soccer will heat up in its intensity with inter-region matches beginning. The region slate consists of twelve games in six weeks, but on Saturday, some teams played their last non-region matches in regular season play.

    Snow Canyon bounced back from Friday night’s loss and won at Payson 3-0. Mitzi Gates, Arianna Weide and Tirsa Snyder scored the goals for the Warriors while Grace Walton earned the shutout. Sophomore Snyder registered her fifth goal of the preseason.

    The Warriors finished their preseason schedule at (2-1) and start Region 9 play on Tuesday when they host the Canyon View Falcons and host Pine View on Thursday.

    The Wasatch Wasps (3-1) beat Desert Hills 2-0 on Saturday in Salt Lake. Whitney Orgill and Savannah Heywood scored goals for the Wasps and Julie Fitzgerald earned a shutout.

    Desert Hills (2-2) begins its Region 9 play on Tuesday when they host the Dixie Flyers.

    Hurricane picked up a 3-1 over the Delta Rabbits at Delta. Shantai Bowen tallied her first two goals of the season in pacing the Tigers and Carly Stratton added the other Tigers’ score for her fifth goal of the young season.

    The Tigers (3-0) begin Region 9 play on Tuesday when they host Pine View and on Thursday host the Dixie Flyers.

    Friday night's results:

    Some Region 9 girls soccer teams found opposing nets to be large and available in Friday night's action.

    Desert Hills rolled to a 6-0 win over Wasatch High on the road. The Thunder scored four first half goals against the Wasps. Berkley Bundy tallied three goals, Brittany Terry, Erica Hansen and McKenna Ott all scored one goal. Janessa Houston and Lauren Bushnell combined for the shutout.

    The Dixie Flyers won 3-1 at Delta High by getting two goals from Britton Leavitt and Alexa Bernabe added the other goal.

    Canyon View girls dominated North Sanpete 8-0 in Cedar. The Falcons netted seven first half goals. Ashlee Braun and Katie Lawely each scored three goals and Kenzie Evans registered the other goal.

    Host Olympus High won 5-3 over Pine View. Claire Hammond score two goals for the Panthers and Taylor Wade added the other goal for visiting Pine View.

    Snow Canyon lost at Juan Diego 3-0. Soaring Eagle goalie Melaine Mecham earned the shutout against the visiting Warriors.
