(Washington City, UT) - In September 1983, a Washington City Mother of two children and a 16 year old Tucson, Arizona girl discovered they had the same husband-a 38 year old engineer who drove about the west with $39,000 in his car.

Kelly Mark Reid David, also known as Tore Argkars Venbjornsson Aackerlund of Washington City, Utah was arrested September 9th, 1983 for third degree felony bigamy. His teenage wife accompanied Davis at the time of his arrest, according to an article in the St. George Spectrum Newspaper. There was something about him-he was different, “said the shocked young wife, a tall brunette, wearing flip flops and dressed in light blue jeans and a form fitting shirt. “It’s so easy to believe how nice he was “she said.

Police said Davis’s first wife, Pat Aackerlund, 34, reported to police she had information her husband had allegedly married a 16 year old girl on August 21st, 1983 in Reno, Nevada. At the time Davis was arrested, he was carrying $39,257 dollars in cash. Mrs. Aackerlund, also a brunette, who is a North Carolina native, said in a soft southern drawl that her husband of thirteen and a half years is a project engineer and had earned the money. She said Davis had been gone most of the summer from his wife and two children. Davis apparently picked up the second wife from her home in Tucson, Arizona and they drove to Las Vegas where they spent some time together. Then a day before he was arrested, they drove into Utah where he dropped his second wife off at a St. George motel. He allegedly went to his first wife’s home in Washington City to get some belongings, then returned to the motel in a hurry and told his second wife, “Let’s leave”. A few hours later, Davis and his juvenile bride were picked up in Cedar City. “We were getting along pretty well, then I found everything was based on lie and lie, “his second wife said. “I want him gone for a long time. He looks so innocent, but look what he did. He married two people, that’s what he did”. On September 14th, Davis pleaded guilty to attempted bigamy in ninth circuit court and in October, he was fined $500 and placed on one year probation.

Meanwhile, his first wife, Pat Aackerlund filed for divorce within two weeks of Davis’ arrest and was awarded half of the $39,000 originally in her husband’s possession at the time of his arrest.

The second wife’s father also requested one thousand, three hundred and sixty dollars in restitution for airplane, motel, attorney and annulment fees he and his daughter incurred as a result of the incident. As for her feelings about the second wife, Mrs. Aackerlund was quoted as saying “I think she used the marriage as a business opportunity”
