(Cedar City, UT) - At approximately 9:05 AM on September 6, 2012, the Cedar City Police Department was dispatched to a suspicious male attempting to lure a seven year old female into a vehicle near East Elementary. The child’s mother advised police that she watched as a male in a silver mini-van approached her child. The sliding door on the mini van opened as the vehicle approached. Before the male could do or say anything the mother came out toward the child causing the driver to speed away.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, possibly in his forties. The male subject was also described as having short black hair. The suspect vehicle is a silver mini van, possibly a Toyota, with Utah centennial license plates.

Officers conducted an extensive search of the area without locating the suspect vehicle. All the local schools were notified of the incident. The Cedar City Police Department is requesting parents be alert to any suspicious persons in or around our schools. Remember to educate your children about the dangers that strangers may present.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Cedar City Police Department at 435-586-2956.
