(St. George, UT) - – The Dixie State College volleyball team dropped a Pacific West Conference match to California Baptist in four games, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 25-17 at the Student Activities Center.

Cal Baptist used a solid performance from outside hitter and Preseason PacWest Player of the Year Ingrid Carmona. She had a match high 19 kills and hit .429. She also added three service aces and two block assists.

The Red Storm didn’t have an answer for Carmona or outside hitter Kim McCalmont who added an additional 12 kills for the Lancers.

For Dixie State, Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) and Mercedes O’Neal (West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) each had 11 kills. Shelby Sorenson (Lehi, UT/Lehi) added 19 assists and Jen Hardman (American Fork, UT/American Fork) had finished with 15.

The two squads battled back and forth in the first game, but CBU used a run to finish off Dixie State.

In the second game, Dixie State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, only to see the Lancers battle back and take the lead. The resilient young Red Storm team battled back and put CBU away 25-19. DSC hit a team high .267 in the second game.

The Red Storm drop to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in PWC play. CBU improved to 11-2 overall and remained unbeaten in PWC play at 4-0.

Dixie State will finish its short two-game home stand with a 4 pm first serve against Point Loma Nazarene at the Student Activities Center.
