In the 22nd minute, Snow Canyon’s Callie Stewart put her team up 1-0 when she redirected a cross from Meghan McKenna from 15 yards out.
Sixteen minutes later (38th minute), Amber Graff got her foot on a loose ball while fighting in a scrum in front of the Panthers’ net. Graff sent the ball past the Pine View goalie to put the Warriors up 2-0 minutes before halftime.
“We played pretty well today,” Snow Canyon coach Kenny Kunde said. “I thought we held our shape well, our defensive effort was good.”
Snow Canyon has beat Pine View three straight which includes a 2010 series sweep.
“Both teams fought hard and it was a good win for us,” Kunde said.
Meghan McKenna assisted on both Warriors’ scores. Kallie Stubbs scored the Panthers’ goal, her fourth goal of the season.
Snow Canyon is tied with the Dixie Flyers at the top of the Region 9 standings at 2-0 (4-1 overall) and Pine View is level at 1-1 in region (1-4 overall).
In other Region 9 action:
Cedar won 2-1 over cross-town rival Canyon View at home. Brindley Oldroyd and Hannah Smith scored a goal apiece for Cedar and Ashlee Braun tallied the Falcon’s score.
Cedar won its first Region 9 game (1-0) and is 3-2 overall while Canyon View fell to 0-2 in region play (2-4 overall).
