(St. George, UT) - The Volunteer Center of Washington County honored Matthew Alexander as its volunteer of the month for May 2012. Alexander was presented the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award at the June meeting of the Washington County Commissioners. He was also presented with an award from the Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah ReStore for his outstanding dedication to the people of our community.

Over the last 12 months, Alexander has volunteered more than 500 hours at the Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah ReStore and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Utah. Tracy Sahleen, the ReStore Manager, says, “He is my hero in so many ways. On more occasions than I can count he has come in to help before the store opens and stayed late.”

Matt Alexander, the father of three, was transferred to Washington County 18 months ago. He has been in the Army since 1996 and has served as a recruiter for the last 9 ½ years. Earlier this month, he graduated from Bellevue University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
