(St. George, UT) - SkyWest Airlines will introduce daily jet service between St. George and Salt Lake International Airport beginning in January 2011. SkyWest Airlines will provide service with the 50-passenger Bombardier-manufactured Canadair Regional Jet 200 (CRJ200).

Chip Childs, SkyWest Airlines President and COO, said “For more than 38 years, SkyWest has provided the highest level of service to our hometown, and we’re pleased to provide jet service to St. George passengers for the first time ever in 2011. As with any air service, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of community support, and there’s truly never been a better time to fly." he said.

St. George Mayor Dan McArthur said "The city is thrilled to have SkyWest Airlines provide jet service to Salt Lake City as we begin operations at the new St. George Municipal Airport. If we want this level of air service in our community well into the future, we need to support it." he said.

The new schedule, effective January 13, 2011, will offer four daily Delta Connection Canadair jet round-trips and one round-trip aboard the 30-passenger EMB 120 Brasilia, plus three weekend Canadair jet round-trips between St. George and Salt Lake City.

Each Canadair 50-passenger CRJ200 jetliner is outfitted with state-of-the-art safety technology and means shorter flight times between St. George and Salt Lake City. The new service will allow more passengers to have access to hundreds of daily departures at one of Delta Air Lines’ largest hubs in Salt Lake City.

The new schedule will be available for booking on Saturday, November 6 at delta.com or by calling Delta reservations at (800)221-1212. The best fares are always online at delta.com.

Construction at the new airport is expected to be complete by the beginning of the year, with an Open House hosted by the City of St. George planned for January 12.

What a waste of money. Sure they are so excited that local money did not build the airport. What about upkeep. Multiple CRJ flights to Salt Lake what a JOKE. They do not fill the 30 seat 120's how do they think they will fill the 50 seat CRJ with higher ticket prices?
