Mesquite Police received several complaints of thefts from cars early Sunday, November 7th in the Desert Drive neighborhood of Mesquite. While investigating officer went to the Helsten residence and upon arrival saw several juveniles fleeing out the backdoor. Police pursued the juveniles, apprehended and booked them into the Mesquite Justice Facility.
Officers discovered other male and female youth from Mesquite and Utah were at the residence. Six juveniles from Mesquite were charged with possession of marijuana, underage consumption of alcohol and curfew violation. Two male juveniles from Utah were charged with vehicle burglary, underage consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia and curfew violation. One of the juveniles from Utah was taken to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Facility in Las Vegas while the other juveniles were released to their parents.
Mesquite Police Department Public Affairs Officer Robert W. Everett said Mesquite police working in cooperation with the Hurricane Police Department questioned juveniles from Hurricane who reportedly were at the Helsten residence. Officers recovered a large amount of stolen property taken from cars parked in the Desert Drive area. No specifics of what solen items were recovered or their estimated value was given by the police department news release.
Officer Everett said, “We always encourage our citizens to lock their vehicles, store valuables in a secure location and to call the police if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood."
