Hamilton lost control of the car, for some unknown reason, which spun around and clipped the end of a semi-truck trailer stopped in the right-hand emergency lane of the freeway.
Patricia Hamilton died at the scene. UHP troopers say she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash as was her husband Theodore. He was taken to Valley View Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner semi-truck and trailer Brian York, 41, of Erie, Pennsylvania and his passenger Charles Piatt, 48, of Rock Springs, Wyoming were not injured in the accident, according to the UHP. Both men were wearing seat belts. The accident remains under investigation by Utah Department of Public Safety.
