Guy married Betty Nelson in Farmington, New Mexico on March 14, 1959. They were later sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They celebrated their 52 wedding anniversary this past year.
In 1946 Guy volunteered to join the U.S. Navy. He was stationed for the next two years on the John Rodgers Navel Air Force Base just outside of Honolulu, Hawaii where he was a small engine mechanic. He worked on generators to start the airplanes. He received an honorable discharge in July of 1948.
Guy spent a number of years working for the railroad in southern New Mexico, then moved to Farmington, New Mexico where he spent the next several years in the oil fields. During that time he owned and operated his own kill truck. Guy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served a mission for the church at Deseret Industries in St. George, Utah. He had an excellent singing voice. He often sang in choirs and ensembles. He participated in many of the numbers with his wife. Guy loved the outdoors and especially loved camping with his family.
Guy is survived by his wife, Betty Nelson Payne; children: Dianalee (John) Jones, Lance Monroe (Barbara) Payne, Scott Nelson Payne, and Sandra (Steven) Stout; brothers: Archie and Nevin; sisters: Mary Anderson and Winie White; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Devere Payne and George Payne; two sisters, Mar Watson and Myrl Jensen; and granddaughter Ashlee Michelle Stout.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pine View Stake Center, 595 N. 2450 E., St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Washington City Cemetery.
