St. George Police Department Investigations Division detectives along with the department’s Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing to analyze and evaluate evidence and other information to determine potential charges in this case. Damage to Marilu’s vehicle is consistent with the circumstances of the collision and matches evidence located at the scene. Additionally, detectives have confirmed Angel was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Early on, this incident was being investigated as a hit and run and officials requested the public’s assistance in locating and identifying the driver and the vehicle. However, investigators have since learned Marilu Angel was at the scene of the accident but did not initially disclose she had been involved.
Search warrants and subpoenas have been ordered on records belonging to Angel to verify claims she may have been suffering from a medical condition at the time of the accident. The extent of injury to the victim is another key element of determining the appropriate charges to file against the driver of the vehicle and must be conclusive prior to making an arrest. Both the outcome of the examination of the records once they are acquired and the precise extent of the victim’s injuries could take several weeks or months but are in progress, according to a news release issued the St. George Police Department Wednesday.
Investigators continue to be in regular contact with the victim monitoring her condition and severity of the injury which will ultimately establish what charges and the jurisdiction responsible for the prosecution of the case. St. George Police have Angels information and fully expect her cooperation when needed.
