(St. George, UT) – Pine View was challenged this week by their coach to exert more energy—they played with enough energy to defeat Cedar High 2-1 on Thursday night.

The Panthers ended Cedar’s four-game winning streak and completed a sweep of the two matches they played this week at home against teams from Cedar City.

The Pine View win raised its Region 9 record to 3-1 (3-4 overall) and made Cedar’s record 2-1 in region play and 4-3 overall.

Panthers’ Coach Sam Johnston wanted something different from what his team did in Tuesday’s win over Canyon View.

“There was a little more energy and that was what I was looking for,” Johnston said. “There was a little more connecting on the offensive third, which I was looking for them to do.

“I am just wanting more energy, and we got more of that tonight.”

McKenzie Hawes and Kali Stubbs each scored a goal to pace the Panthers and they did their best to drive their team to increased effort.

“It [intensity] was better,” Johnston said. “We had a much better showing tonight.

“We’re still trying to figure out who we’re going to be. As long as we are going to keep winning, I have to keep the complaints at a minimum.”

Cedar got scoring from an Adrianne Beazer goal in the second half, her third goal of the season.

In other Region 9 girls soccer play from Thursday night, the Desert Hills Thunder defeated Canyon View 4-2 on the road.

Berkley Bundy scored two goals, and Bridgette Jensen and Kelly Luthy each scored one goal for Desert Hills. The Thunder tallied three goals in the first half and held a 3-1 lead at the break.

The Falcons got goals from Ashlee Braun, Katie Lawley.
