(Hurricane, UT) – Desert Hills Thunder wrestling is top-notch and on Saturday in Hurricane, at the fourth ‘Tiger Style Open’ tournament, they showed how good they are.

Desert Hills’ wrestlers took home five first-place medals and won four second-places in accumulating their 360-point team performance, which was121 points ahead of second-place team Hurricane (239).

Asked if this season could be the best Thunder season yet in the school’s young four years, wrestling Coach Warren Richins said, “Yes! Definitely, the possibility is real.”

“We have a pretty darn solid line-up.”

Brandon Parry (113 lbs), James Suwyn (132 lbs), Devan Webb (138), Kevan Webb (160) and Kalob Stevenson (285) won their divisions for the Thunder team solidifying its tourney showing.

Host Hurricane had its impressive performances as well. The Tigers picked up four first-place medals and a second place finish, and Tigers won the two tournament outstanding wrestlers awards (Josh Pettus and Zach Prince).

Pettus won a state-championship quality match at 106 pounds against Desert Hills’ Joe Mondragon in overtime, and Prince beat Israel Perez (152 lbs) in a pair of matchups between top wrestlers of both schools.

A Desert Hills or Hurricane wrestler won nine of the 14 divisions and five of the 14 second-place slots.

Dixie Flyers’ Josh Batin was the other Region 9 wrestler who won in the 195 lb division, keeping his undefeated start to the season intact, and won his second tournament win this season. Batin won the 220-pound division in a Salem Hills tournament last week.
