(St. George, UT)- The Hurricane Tigers boys and the Snow Canyon Lady Warriors' basketball teams capped off their seasons by beating Region 9 rivals in the 3A State championship round on Saturday at Burns Arena.

Snow Canyon defeated the Desert Hills Thunder in a rubber match 50-47 to win the girls' title. Much on the shoulders of Amy Harris (20 points), Autumn Shipp (10), and Megan Leavitt (9), the Lady Warriors established a three-point halftime lead (26-23), and held on through the second half to get the win. Desert Hills was led in scoring by Haley Bodnar (14).

In the boys' title game, Hurricane used an inspired third quarter to help outlast the Thunder and win their first basketball title since 1982. The Tigers' 52-49 victory was helped by Hurricane's 18-point third quarter, the Thunder scored 10 in the quarter after establishing a 28-24 halftime lead. Colton Marshall led Hurricane with 14 points and eight rebounds. Tiger guards Weston Yardley, Benson Rich, and Taylor Parker were critical though to Hurricane's win. Yardley (10 points) had five steals, hit two treys, and converted both of his free throws. Parker pulled down five boards and added eight points. Rich grabbed five boards as well, and scored eight points, including draining pressure-packed free throws in the fourth quarter. Hurricane center Boston Gubler was defended effectively by Desert Hills' defense. Gubler scored below his average (8), but he scored free throws in the game's closing seconds to help seal the win.
