The centerfielder launched a 3-1 pitch over the porch in right-centerfield for a 4-2 victory after DSC blasted past the Yellowjackets 14-3 earlier in the day at Bruce Hurst Field.
Dixie State improved to 10-4 on the year, taking the first two games of the non-conference series with MSUB (2-4) of the Great Northwest Conference.
Austin Christiansen pitched five solid innings in relief to earn the game two win (2-0). He allowed just one hit while striking out two hitters. Freshman hurler Stefan Cantwell made his first collegiate start – surrendering two earned runs on four MSUB hits over two innings.
After MSUB took a 2-0 lead after the visiting half of the first, Yuto Kata tallied an RBI drawing a bases loaded walk and Garrett Nash brought in Mitch Manning on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The game remained tied until Johnson’s homer, his second of the year, off MSUB starter Samuel Patterson.
In the series opener, junior starter Mike Dedrick received all the offensive support he would need after Dixie State scored eight runs in the opening frame. Dedrick threw seven quality innings – three runs on seven hits while fanning six – to even his season record to 1-1.
The Storm racked up 14 runs on 13 hits in game one, eight runs came and five hits came in the opening inning. Tyson Littlewood was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Joe Andrade followed with a two-run single, and a bases loaded walk gave Ammon Zitting an RBI. Nash capped the frame with a double to plate two more.
Nash and Andrade would factor in a five-run fifth as well. Nash singled home Sam Friend with one out. Later, Andrade smacked a double to right field plating two.
Andrade closed the game 3-for-5 with five RBI while Nash had four hits, three RBI and three runs scored.
The series concludes Monday with another scheduled doubleheader beginning at 2:00PM.
