(Cedar City, UT) – Southern Utah University shortstop Bo Cuthbertson has been named to the 2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award watch list. This is the second consecutive year that Cuthbertson has been in consideration after being named a quarterfinalist for the honor during his junior season.

The award recognizes the nation’s top shortstop, factoring in the both the player’s offensive and defensive play. The watch list released this week features fifty of the nation’s best NCAA Division I shortstops.

Cuthbertson, the 2011 Summit League Player of the Year, currently leads the Thunderbirds with a .290 batting average, 32 RBI and six home runs. The Glendale, Ariz., native also has five doubles, two triples and eight stolen bases this season, along with a .476 slugging percentage and .407 on-base percentage.

Earlier this year Cuthbertson became SUU’s all-time leader in hits (255), total bases (394) and runs scored (162). He has also furthered his standing as the leader in career doubles (58) and triples (18).

The winner of the award will be recognized on June 30 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.
