(Salt Lake City, UT) - Candidate for governor, Peter S. Cooke, released a statement today vowing to uphold the Utah State Constitution which legally defines marriage and to work towards statewide anti-discrimination legislation.

"As your governor, I will uphold the Utah State Constitution which defines marriage as the legal union between a man and a woman."

"However, I will never waver in my commitment to stand tall for all Utahans against bullying, violence and discrimination. I stand by the ordinance adopted by Salt Lake City and supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints affirming that any discrimination in hiring or housing based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity is illegal. I believe this position should be adopted by the state legislature and by all Utah citizens state-wide. As your governor, I will not tolerate any kind of illegal discrimination against any faction of our citizens."
