The Red Storm, the number two-seed in the West Region, join host Western Oregon (40-9), UC San Diego and Cal State Chico (37-16) in a four-team regional to be played at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, Ore.
Dixie State College’s first game is Thursday at 1PM Pacific (2PM Mountain) against the No. 3 seed and California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament champion Tritons of UCSD (32-22). Western Oregon and Chico State will follow at 5PM Pacific.
The Red Storm enter the NCAA Tournament with a 32-18 overall record and a second-place finish in the Pacific West Conference regular season race. A critical series win over Cal State Los Angeles two weeks ago vaulted DSC from the No. 6 spot to No. 3 in last week’s West Region poll. An early exit for Chico State in the CCAA Tournament moved DSC up another spot.
This marks the first appearance for the Red Storm in the NCAA Tournament in five years of postseason eligibility. DSC won the 2004 NJCAA (Junior College) National Championship at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. DSC won the Region 18 Championship, but lost in the NJCAA Western Region Tournament in 2006 - the last postseason appearance for the DSC baseball program.
Tickets for the West Regional will be on sale at the Volcanoes ticket office prior to the tournament and on game day. Tickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students per day. The tickets can be purchased through volcanoesbaseball.com or by calling 503-390-2225. Parking at the stadium will be $3 per vehicle.
