(Mesquite, NV) - Mesquite Police Officers arrested three Las Vegas residents for possession of drugs Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the local Walmart Super Center.

Officers were at the Customer Service Desk purchasing items for the upcoming “Grad Night Out” event when they observed an adult male and female acting suspiciously. They were attempting to return several high dollar items without a receipt. When the male subject observed the officers, he left the area leaving the female to return the items. The officers then left the store and waited in an unmarked police vehicle for the pair to exit.

A short time later both subjects left the store carrying the items they were attempting to return and loaded them in the trunk of a silver, 2001 Honda, Accord. They met up with another male and female driving a black, 1994 Cadillac sedan. When officers arrived on scene in marked police vehicles, the driver of the Cadillac was observed hiding something in his sock.

Mesquite K-9 Officer, after conducting a search of both vehicles, recovered over 67.3 grams of Methamphetamine worth an estimated street value of $2,500, 54 tablets of Hydrocodone, and several items of Drug Paraphernalia.

Arrested were Keith Barney, 39, of Las Vegas for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jessica Meddles, 24, of Las Vegas for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Hypodermic Device. Robert Prentice, 44, of Las Vegas for Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a Hypodermic Device, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Valiri Aileen Ryan, 25, of Las Vegas was cited and released for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Barney, Meddles, and Prentice were transported to the Mesquite Detention Center for processing and later transferred to the Clark County Detention Facility in Las Vegas where they were booked on felony charges.

Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner said, “This is an example of being in the right place at the right time. It’s good to know that our Officers are dedicated and proactive in getting drugs off our streets.”
