(Mesquite, NV) - A Mesquite Police officer conducting a routine traffic stop of a pick-up truck just before midnight on Monday, June 11th, 2012, observed suspicious behavior exhibited by two male adult occupants and indications of criminal activity.

The officer deployed the newest member of the Mesquite Police Department - K-9 Noro, a two year old Belgian Malinois canine. K-9 Noro immediately alerted the officer to the presence of drug odor confirming the veteran officer's suspicion.

Upon a search of the pick-up truck police located 8.4 grams of methamphetamine. Two adult occupants identified as Shirl Johnson, 43 and David Carter, 43, both of La Verkin, Utah were arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug trafficking.

Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner commended the Mesquite police officer and K9 Noro for their consistent hard work 24/7 and dedication. Chief Tanner said, “This is another example of our police officer's continuing commitment to keep Mesquite safe, free from the criminal element that destroys lives, families, and communities."
