(St. George, UT) - The National Soda Summit was held in Washington earlier this month with 250 public health workers and researchers getting the latest science on sugary drinks. The hero of the anti-soda world New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg did not attend but was represented by his Health Commissioner Thomas Farley.

Mayor Bloomberg has recently proposed a ban on the sale of sugary drinks exceeding 16 ounces. Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia gave the keynote speech comparing the war on sugar equally as important as the smoking ban he signed in Philadelphia. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) on Thursday introduced an amendment to a farm bill that would require a study by the federal government to determine the links between sugary beverages and obesity.

In a non-scientific survey of 9, 637 responses to a KCSG.com poll conducted June 19 - 21, 2012 to the question - "Should City, State or Federal Government have the authority to limit the amount of sugar in our body?" - Ninety-one (91%) said "No", Four-percent said "Yes" and Four-percent said they didn't know.
