Mecham was driving a white 2000 Chevy Impala when he hit a motorcyclist near the intersection of SR-9 and 5300 West, which leads to the Washington County Fairgrounds. The driver of the motorcycle suffered injuries and was transported to the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.
As Mecham continued eastbound into Hurricane, a second motorcyclist traveling with the motorcyclist hit by Mecham, followed the suspect’s vehicle to the intersection of SR-9 and 3700 West in Hurricane.
The second motorcyclist parked in front of Mecham’s car and got off his bike to confront the suspect. Mecham then drove into the motorcycle and headed north on 3700 West for several blocks before turning around, driving off the road onto the sidewalk and eventually hitting a power pole. He then fled on foot and was shortly after apprehended by Hurricane Police officers.
He was booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility charged with suspicion of DUI, possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless driving, causing a personal injury accident, failure to report an accident and driving on a denied license. Bail was set at $15,996.
The identities of the motorcyclists involved in the incident were not released nor the condition of the injured biker.
