(St. George, UT) - On Wednesday morning, July 25, 2012, Fire Managers issued road advisories to the public for all routes on the BLM Arizona Strip District which access the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. Due to Tuesday night’s thunderstorms and the significant precipitation the area received, many roads have become impassable, especially those which provide access to the Monument which have been impacted by severe flash flooding. The public is advised to avoid these backcountry roads for safety purposes; from Mesquite, Nevada-roads 111 “Whitney Pass”, and 242 “Lime Kiln”, from St. George, Utah, road 101 out of “Wolf Hole”. The current condition of these roads will require several days of heavy equipment operation to repair.

Fires on the Strip are currently staffed with resources and are burning in cheatgrass, mixed brush, and pinyon/juniper trees. No evacuations have been implemented and no structures threatened.

The Hayrocks wildfire started by fireworks on July 21, 2012 burned 9-acres; contained.

The Cottonwood Wildfire started by lightning on July 21, 2012 burned 1,981-acres; contained.

The Grand Wildfire started by lightning July 21, 2012 near near Snap Point burned 408-acres; contained.



The Rattlesnake Wildfire started lightning July 22, 2012 has burned 5-acres and remains uncontained. Two engines are assigned.

The Grove fire started July 22, 2012 by lightning burned a single tree is contained.

The Hidden Wildfire started by lightning Monday, July 23, 2013 burned 241-acres; contained.

There were two new fires started by lightning Tuesday on the Arizona Strip of 10-acres each. No containment estimate status is given by fire managers.

The Wash fire started by lightning Tuesday, July 24, 2012 has burned 540-acres on the Grand Wash Cliffs Wilderness Area-Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument. A Type II Fire Management Team is on the scene with one Type III Helicopter and one 20 member hand crew.

The Lime Wildfire started by lightning Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Lime Kiln Canyon, eight-miles west of Mesquite has burned 20-acres. No containment status. Fire resources include four engines and one hand crew.

The Hobble Complex Wildfire started by lightning July 11, 2012 35-miles south of St. George, Utah, burned 34,596-acres is 100-percent contained.



The Plateau Wildfire started by lightning July 11, 2012, 65-miles south of St. George burned 3,175-acres and is 100-percent contained.
