Participants in the Washington County Sheriff’s Office’s Citizens Academy will be sent to Purgatory Correctional Facility on the last night of the Academy. The eight-week course introduces participants to county law enforcement operations and the inner workings of the jail as part of its final evening of teaching about tactical groups such as the Washington County Search and Rescue, SWAT and the drug and gang task forces.
Participants must make application which can be found at Citizens Academy. The academy will accommodate only 40 qualified applicants. Applicants are encouraged to read the application carefully to determine qualifications for the program. Members of the Citizens Academy will be encouraged ride-a-long with one of the Washington County Sheriff's Deputies.
