(St. George, UT) - Barton Community College women’s soccer goalkeeper Cecilee Horlacher has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Player of the Week. Horlacher, a freshman from St. George, Utah, made her first collegiate start and helped anchor a solid defensive effort by the Cougars in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Western Nebraska Community College. Turning away three shots on goal, the Snow Canyon High School graduate saved two shots on goal in the game’s first forty-five minutes when Western Nebraska had a gusty south wind advantage to keep the game scoreless. The Cougar defense was equally impressive giving up only five shots allowing just the three on goal. Offensively the Cougars unleashed fifteen shots in the second half alone to cruise to the 4-0 victory.
Horlacher becomes the second soccer player to earn the award this week. Last week men’s soccer player Sam McCrillis was also named the weekly recipient. On the season Barton improves to 2-1-0 with the win and will open conference and region play this Wednesday. The Cougars will take on Dodge City Community College at 2:00 p.m. at Cougar Field. Barton will also have a non-conference game on Thursday against MCC-Maple Woods. Game time for Thursday’s game is also 2:00 p.m. at Cougar Field.
