(St. George, UT) – Walkers and supporters from throughout the community are uniting for Walk MS 2012 presented by Questar on Saturday, October 20 at the Tonaquint Park. The annual event benefiting the National MS Society aims to raise funds to help researchers find a cure and to support local programs and services for Utahns impacted by multiple sclerosis.

“The funds raised by walkers and the awareness generated by each and every conversation participants have in the lead up to Walk MS has the power to change the world for people impacted by multiple sclerosis,” said Utah Vice President of Community Development for the Society Becky Lyttle. “Every step and every dollar is helping to make a difference.”

MS is an unpredictable often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Every 50 minutes in the United States someone is newly diagnosed with more than 400,000 Americans and 2.1 million people worldwide. Utah has one of the highest incidence rates in the country. It is believed one in 300 Utahns is affected.

“Walk MS is an amazing event held every year to raise money for research and local programs to help people with MS,” said St. George event organizer Christina Hopkinson. “It is a great morning for the whole family and a fun way to get involved and help out a good cause.”
