Work For Rape Victims Moves Forward
(SALT LAKE CITY, Utah) - House Democratic Leader Jennifer Seelig commented yesterday on the new plan unveiled to process rape kit backlog in Salt Lake City area. Seelig, the sponsor of a law strengthening the rights of rape victims, released the following statement.

"I am very excited that the Salt Lake City Police Department, the Department of Public Safety, and the Salt Lake District Attorney's office recognize that rape is a community issue, not an individual one. Their commitment to addressing the backlog of kits not yet processed is positive, and one we hope will be mirrored in every city and every county across Utah. My commitment is to protect victims of crime from re-victimization, by those who have committed the original crime or by the complicated and sometimes painful reporting and prosecution process. It is our responsibility as community leaders, elected officials, and heads of state to protect our community from criminals and the behaviors that allow them to continue to commit crimes in our neighborhoods."
