(St. George, UT) - Ironman race organizers are apparently seeing red: the beautiful red rocks of St. George, Utah. A recent announcement on Ironmanstgeorge.com has informed the public that St. George, Utah is the host of the 2010 Ironman qualifying race on May 1st, 2010.

Why St. George? Steve Meckfessel, the Chief Operations Officer for World Triathlon Corporation, had this to say about St. George: “St. George is the ideal setting for our newest Ironman event. The community’s experience in hosting the popular St. George Marathon, the scenic landscape of surrounding Washington County and the proximity to core triathlon markets in the region will contribute to Ford Ironman St. George quickly becoming one of our most popular races," Meckfessel said.

The race itself will begin with a 2.4 mile swim in the nearby Sand Hollow Reservoir, followed by the 112-mile bike ride throughout Washington County, finishing with the 26.2 mile marathon through Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and downtown St. George.
