Police were notified Wednesday morning about 9:00am that Edwards' had failed to return from her usual 30-minute walk. The Sun City Mesquite Homeowners Association circulated a Missing-Persons Notice throughout the community. Police called in the Las Vegas Metro search and rescue helicopter to assist in the search.
Her body was sighted from the helicopter in the afternoon near a walking trail in the desert close to the Sun City-Mesquite development. Lt. Troy Tanner of the Mesquite Police Department said there is no indication of foul play associated with the death. Police investigators believe Edwards may have fallen down a steep incline where her body was discovered, he said. By policy all unattended deaths are referred to the Clark County Coroner's office for an official cause of death determination which could take as long as two weeks, he said.
Edwards was an active member of the community in Toastmasters International (Mesquite Silver Tongues) and Friends of Gold Butte. Her unexpected death has shocked and saddened her family and friends.
