(Kanab, UT) - First-degree murder suspect Scott Curley, 23, of Fredonia, Arizona appeared before Utah Sixth District Court Judge Wallace A. Lee in Kanab, Utah Tuesday afternoon. A $500,000 cash only bond was imposed in connection with a fugitive warrant issued by Coconino County, Arizona on a charge of First Degree Murder in the alleged killing of Kane County Deputy Sheriff Brian Harris near Fredonia, Arizona. In addition, a $100,000 cash only bond was imposed in connection with Utah felony charges of Attempted Aggravated Burglary and Criminal Trespass allegedly occurring at or near a residence in Kane County, Utah, at about the time Mr. Curley was taken into custody.

The court appointed criminal defense attorney William Leigh (Bishop & Leigh) of Cedar City, Utah, to represent Curley.

Further proceedings in connection with the extradition of Curley to Coconino County, Arizona on the fugitive warrant will be held in Kanab, Utah Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 12:30 noon MDT in Utah’s Sixth District Court.

Since Kane County Deputy Brian Harris was killed last Thursday afternoon, the Coconino County Sheriffs' office has been working closely with Arizona and Utah law enforcement agencies and the Kane County District Attorney.

Coconino County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim Driscoll arrived in Fredonia, Arizona within hours of the reported shooting, and remained there through most of the incident coordinating with law enforcement officials, and visiting the scene of the shooting. Homicide investigators are reviewing evidence compiled and documented by numerous law enforcement agencies involved in the apprehension of the suspect and the investigation of the case. The Coconino County District Attorney will continue to give this matter the utmost priority.
