(Salt Lake City, UT) - Morgan Philpot, Republican candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District, announced Thursday that CBS News has given him “the edge” over 5-term incumbent Jim Matheson in Utah’s 2nd District Congressional race. Matheson’s seat was considered safe as recent as last April.

“The CBS Political Team rating validates what we have been saying since January,” said Morgan Philpot, Republican candidate for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. “Utahns are ready for a change in the 2nd district. They are ready for a candidate, who knows what it means to balance a budget and be a real advocate for Utah lands. They want a representative who, instead of voting for stimulus after stimulus, understands the role of government in promoting a job-friendly, job-creating environment. And frankly, they are tired of guessing how they will be represented in DC.”

The CBS rating of the UT2 race comes on the heels of Fox New contributor, Dick Morris, putting Philpot within three points of his opponent, and the National Republican Committee moving Philpot to “On the Radar” in the Young Guns candidate program.

“Americans and Utahns want to go in a different direction, because they realize that the path we are on is destructive to our freedom and our prosperity. And they get that if we want to go in a different direction, they need to make a different choice at the ballot box,” said Philpot.

I've noticed signs popping up around the salt lake county are stating that 'Matheson=pelosi'. I'd like to think of Philpot as being the type not to negative campaign. But, after further review, It seems as though it's common trend. Several supporters of Philpot claim freedom of speech, yet feel as though it's completely 'wrong' for the opponent to make claims on past history.

If this is what we are voting for, the character of Philpot is quickly going down hill.

Thank you KCSG for acknowledging this critical race for Utah's District 2. A large majority of voters in Southern Utah are uniting behind Morgan Philpot to represent them in Washington D.C. because he best represents our values. We are exasperated with Jim Matheson's voting record (93% with Pelosi) and his progressive views which are destroying the fabric of our nation. Morgan will support regaining Utah lands, placing a moratorium on spending, and a return to the foundational principles of the U.S. Constitution with States' rights being paramount.
